Heartstart Havering is affiliated to Heartstart UK which is an initiative co-ordinated by the British Heart Foundation to promote and develop Emergency Life Support (ELS) training throughout the UK.

ELS comprises the essential actions needed to maintain life in an emergency.  These include:

  1. General care of a casualty including procedures for obtaining help

  2. Dealing with a suspected heart attack victim

  3. Dealing with an unconscious person who is breathing

  1. Performing cardio-pulmonary resuscitation on a person who is not breathing

  2. Dealing with choking

  3. Dealing with serious and life threatening bleeding

Each course lasts about 2 hours and refreshments are provided afterwards to give you a chance to talk to the instructors and ask any questions.  There are a maximum of twenty places on each course, so they must be booked in advance to save any disappointment.  We also have five instructors on each course so that you are only working with three other people during the practical sessions.

At the end of the course you will receive a certificate of attendance, a book giving full details about ELS, a credit card sized reminder, and a resuscitation key ring.

Courses are free, but it costs us £9 per person, so to enable us to continue providing these courses for other people, it would help if you would make a donation.  If you pay income tax and would like to make your donation by gift aid, please ask for details, for each £1 donated by gift aid we get 28 pence back from the Inland Revenue.
